Committees

What committees does our union have?

Union Management Committee

The Union Management Committee is defined in Article 5.05(a) of our Collective Agreement, and is used to discuss issues before they turn into problems. It consists of equal members of the Union and of the Employer. The Union is represented by the President, the Vice President, and another member of the Executive.

Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee

The Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) is established under the authority of the Occupational Health & Safety Act of Ontario. The JHSC is comprised of equal members of the Union and of Management, and it is co-chaired by a union official, elected by the General Membership.

It is extremely important that you contact your elected JHSC representative if you have any questions about health and safety on the job.

Job Evaluation – Rating Committee

Compensation is based on the job that you do. Jobs – not the incumbents that perform the work – are rated using a tool developed by CUPE National. An incumbent does not ever rate their own position, which means the committee relies on details provided by the incumbent(s) of the positions being rated to do its work; therefore, it is important to have as many different points of view as possible on the committee. The committee is comprised of equal members of the Union and Management. The objective of this committee is to provide an agreed-upon rating to provide to the Steering Committee.

Job Evaluation – Steering Committee

The Steering Committee meets after the Rating Committee has completed its work. It is also comprised of equal representation of Union and Management. This Committee decides which pay band of Schedule A to place to the rated job in.

Bargaining Committee

The Bargaining Committee consists of four (4) members of the Local: The President, the Vice-President, a general member from the local (elected), and another general member from the local that works specifically in Wyoming (elected). The Bargaining Committee is struck prior to negotiating a new Collective Agreement, just before the current agreement expires.
